Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program - Transforming The Continent's Brain Drain Into Brain Circulation!

Acredited universities in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda can submit a project request online to host a scholar. African host institutions can request that the scholar participate in projects in curriculum co-development, collaborative research and/or graduate student teaching and mentoring. Links to the African host institution project request application, scholar roster application and guidelines are posted on the CADFP website (https://www.iie.org/Programs/Carnegie-African-Diaspora-Fellowship-Program/How-to-Apply/For-African-Institutions).

Selection decisions will be made in April 2019; project visits can begin as early as May 2019 and must be completed by August 31, 2019.

Fellow's Day 2018 @ 9Th Edctp Forum, Lisbon, Portugal

We recently held our first EDCTP Fellow's Day linked to the 9th EDCTP Forum in Lisbon, Portugal. We welcomed over 70 Fellows from around sub-Saharan Africa to discuss issues around good mentorship and research leadership in Africa. We heard from Professor Akuffo on the roles of supervisors and mentors in brining up the next generation of research leaders in Africa. We also heard from some of our Fellows on their personal journey to leadership and were very encouraged to hear just how much has been acomplished!

Hosting African Fellows At Merck: A Success Story (Dr Isidore Traore)

Dr Isidore Traore, a Medical Doctor, with a Master degree in biostatistics and a PhD in epidemiology who joined the Global Clinical Operations (GCO) organization at Merck for 15 months to enhance his skills in the area of clinical practices and operations. Highly motivated, Isidore arrived at Merck from Burkina Faso, specifically from the Centre Muraz in Bobo-Dioulasso where he has been working with increasing responsibilities as of 2001.

And now one year later, back in his country, he is implementing all the learnings and advanced knowledge through a series of activities. Isidore Traore who confirmed, ”At Merck I have learnt to be more self-confident and to work efficiently. I am now sharing these skills with my colleagues in Burkina Faso.”

The fellowship also allowed Isidore to step up his carrier, obtaining the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Bobo-Dioulasso.             Congratulations Isidore!
